Integral Access Appoints Jack Cicon President and Chief Executive Officer

Former Lucent Executive Takes Reins at Start-Up Provider of IP-Based Integrated Access Equipment; Company Outlines Fiber Strategy

Chelmsford, Mass. - Oct. 30, 2000 - Integral Access, Inc. -- -- the intelligent IP access company -- today announced the appointment of former Lucent Technologies executive Jack Cicon as president and Chief Executive Officer. A 30-year veteran of the communications industry, Mr. Cicon has successfully led a number of Lucent business units to market leadership positions. Prior to joining Integral Access, Mr. Cicon was responsible for managing Lucent's strategic multi-service access products business unit. Integral Access founder Jeff Wake will now serve as full-time Chairman, and continue to be actively involved in the company. Integral Access also announced today that the PurePacket™ platform will support the delivery of IP-based voice and broadband data services over fiber optic links from the edge of carrier networks all the way to the customer premise.

Mr. Cicon brings a depth of communications equipment industry expertise to Integral Access, notably in carrier class access technologies, switching and data networking systems. His broad base of experience working with service providers in domestic and international markets, stellar operations management background and proven executive management skills will help lead the company to its next level of corporate development.

"Jack Cicon has built and managed Lucent's multi-service access business into one of the company's fastest growing and most successful units," said Jeff Wake, Chairman, Integral Access. "Jack's extensive business, operations and technical management background, deep knowledge of the carrier market, and proven execution skills will play a central role in steering Integral Access to its next level of growth and development."

PurePacket Fiber Strategy

Integral Access also announced today that it is adding fiber optic transport to the growing list of media technologies supported by the PurePacket system for delivering integrated IP-based services across access networks. The addition of fiber optic interfaces to the PurePacket platform, which also currently supports copper, DSL, and leased lines, moves Integral Access one step closer to providing a media independent IP-access platform. PurePacket is designed to allow carriers to deliver a comprehensive set of converged services over a single multi-purpose network regardless of the last mile link available for reaching customers .

The PurePacket platform will leverage its intelligent Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS)-based architecture to inter-operate with the control plane of DWDM (Dense Wave Division Multiplexing) core networks using the emerging Multi Protocol Lambda Switching standard. This will enable carriers to conduct end-to-end signaling across switched fiber optic backbone networks for routing traffic, managing quality of service and enabling fiber based VPNs. PurePacketNode• Multi Service Devices will support fiber connections to the PurePacketOUTburst Å customer premise IADs (Integrated Access Devices), and will offer Gigabit Ethernet, OC-3 and OC-12 interfaces for connecting to optical core networks at high speeds

"Integral Access has developed the most advanced solution for helping carriers profitably deliver broadband voice and data services over their access networks and build new generation packet-based infrastructures," said Jack Cicon, president and CEO, Integral Access. "With the addition of fiber optic interfaces, Integral Access is in an excellent position to capitalize on global initiatives to build out packet-based access networks, and supply emerging and established carriers with the core building blocks for their new last mile infrastructures. I look forward to helping make Integral Access the world's leading supplier of packet-based access equipment."

Mr. Cicon joins Integral Access following a stellar career with Lucent Technologies. In his most recent position at Lucent, Mr. Cicon was general manager and vice president of multi-service access products and had worldwide responsibility for managing this strategic business, which included the AnyMedia product line. He has held a number of executive management positions at Lucent in the access products division, switching systems and data networking business unit. Mr. Cicon was also the director of data networking at the world renowned AT&T Bell Laboratories, and managed a number of engineering and software development centers at Lucent. Mr. Cicon holds an MS in Engineering Sciences and Mathematics from New York University, and a BS in Mathematics from Kings College.
