Integral Access Delivers First Broadband IAD with Support for 4.5
Mb/s of Data Traffic and 48 Voice Lines
Single PurePacketOUTburst-SB Integrated Access Device Enables Carriers
to Triple Access Network Bandwidth and Double Voice Line Capacity
CHELMSFORD, Mass. - Jan. 14, 2002 - Integral Access, Inc. -- the intelligent
IP access network company -- today announced a new version of its IP/MPLS-based
PurePacketOUTburst-SB integrated access device (IAD) that enables carriers
to deliver true high speed data services and twice as many voice lines
to small and medium businesses by linking together three T1 access lines.
The enhanced PurePacketOUTburst-SB is the first IAD that allows network
operators to cost effectively provide a single customer location with
up to 4.5 Mb/s of access network bandwidth and support for 48 voice calls
using a single customer premises unit. This new module for the PurePacketOUTburst-SB
is part of the PurePacket system which integrates voice, video,
and data services on a single IP based access infrastructure.
"The features promised by the PurePacketOUTburst-SB positions us
to satisfy the advanced application requirements of our larger customers
while enabling us to create and deliver new cost-effective integrated
IP voice and broadband data services," said Mike Rouleau, senior
vice president marketing and business development, Time Warner Telecom.
"We look forward to testing these features soon."

The PurePacketOUTburst-SB is designed to meet the needs of small and
medium sized businesses (SMB), as well as branch offices of large enterprises.
With its new inverse multiplexing capabilities, the PurePacketOUTburst-SB
enables carriers to transparently bond three 1.5 MB/s T1 lines so they
appear as one integrated 4.5 MB/s link to the customer. The PurePacketOUTburst-SB
can support up to 4.5 MB/s of data traffic and 48 voice calls. This provides
carriers with the flexibility to initially sell customers a level of access
bandwidth that meets their current requirements, and remotely increase
bandwidth and/or voice lines as capacity needs change.
"The broadband PurePacketOUTburst-SB enables service providers to
generate new revenue opportunities by creating integrated service bundles
that combine true high speed data capabilities with a flexible range of
voice line options," said Guy Chenard, vice president, marketing
and business development, Integral Access. "The PurePacketOUTburst-SB
also allows service providers to expand their base of target customers
by meeting the higher capacity requirements of larger enterprises."
The PurePacketOUTburst-SB natively supports a comprehensive portfolio
of IP services including Voice over IP, Video over IP, Voice over DSL,
IP Virtual Private Networks (VPN), and LAN interconnect, as well as legacy
services including Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS), PBX interconnect,
and private line. It provides investment protection for existing circuit-switched
infrastructures and a smooth migration to all IP networks. The PurePacketOUTburst-SB
operates with SoftSwitches via MGCP (Media Gateway Control Protocol),
supports Class 5 voice networks using the GR-303 protocol, and interfaces
to IP/MPLS and ATM based networks. The PurePacketOUTburst-SB also includes
a built-in firewall, DHCP and Network Address translation.
PurePacketOUTburst-SB Highlights
To meet the service requirements of a wide range of small/medium-sized
businesses and branch offices, the PurePacketOUTburst-SB is highly configurable
and can be equipped with up to three interface modules, in addition to
a built-in 10/100BaseT Ethernet port. The carrier network interface can
be configured with a DSL, T1, E1, or 3xT1 module to connect to the Central
Office (CO), Point of Presence (PoP), or Co-location. The two configurable
customer premises interfaces can be equipped with modules for POTS (12
lines per module, FXS or FXO), DS-1 or E1 for connecting to a PBX, or
V.35/X.21 for serial data connections.
For rapid service activation, PurePacketOUTburst-SB devices can be remotely
configured and monitored by the PurePacket Operations Management System
(OMS) as soon as they are added to the network. To conserve valuable space
at the customer premises, the PurePacketOUTburst-SB is a compact 1U high
and 19 inches wide, and is wall or rack-mountable.
Pricing and Availability
The new 3xT1 module for the PurePacketOUTburst-SB is available immediately.
The upgrade module for existing PurePacketOUTburst-SB units is less than
$1,400. Base pricing for the PurePacketOUTburst-SB is less than $1,900.
PurePacket Overview
The PurePacket integrated access network solution enables carriers to
deliver all services over a single network using virtually any transport
media including copper pairs, xDSL, leased lines, and fiber links. It
is the first and only 100 percent packet-based solution that uses an MPLS-based
fabric to make connectionless networks behave like their connection-oriented
predecessors. PurePacket allows service providers to guarantee QoS for
latency sensitive voice calls and video transmissions, dynamically allocate
bandwidth between voice, video and data applications, and offer/bill for
multiple classes of service. The PurePacket solution is composed of PurePacketOUTburst
customer premises IADs; PurePacketNode® carrier class network aggregation
devices for central offices, co-locations, and points of presence; PurePacketCompact
which provides the same service capabilities as the PurePacketNode for
small campus, in-building or low density applications; and the PurePacketOMS
for network/element control and services management.
