Integral Access Signs Deal with Time Warner Telecom to Provide Access Platform For IP-Based Integrated Services

Packet-Based Last Mile Infrastructure to Support Converged Voice, Data and Multimedia Business Services over a Single Network Connection

Chelmsford, Mass. - May 7, 2001 - Integral Access, Inc, the intelligent MPLS access company, today announced a strategic multi-year, multi-million dollar agreement to sell packet-based access equipment to Time Warner Telecom Inc. (NASDAQ: TWTC), a leader in building metro area optical networks. Time Warner Telecom plans to use Integral Access PurePacket™ systems to deliver its comprehensive suite of converged communications products to businesses, and deploy next generation last mile networks nationwide that converge voice, data, and multimedia services on a single access link using the Internet Protocol (IP).

The Integral Access PurePacket system allows Time Warner Telecom to provide its customers greater bandwidth efficiency through "Silence Suppression." Bandwidth is dynamically allocated, so it is available when not in use. Silence during voice calls is suppressed to free additional bandwidth.

Under terms of the agreement, Time Warner Telecom plans to purchase equipment from Integral Access to offer a complete range of IP-based communications services to businesses in markets across the United States. PurePacket, through its Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) architecture, will enable Time Warner Telecom to maximize the traffic carrying capacity of its access networks, and create differentiated products with various levels of Quality of Service and Service Level Agreements that match customer requirements. Time Warner Telecom plans to deploy the Integral Access PurePacket platform (which includes PurePacketOUTburst ® customer premise equipment, PurePacketNode™ carrier network aggregation devices, and the PurePacketOMS™ Operations Management System) to converge and deliver traditional voice and broadband data services over a single network link.

"Time Warner Telecom is leading the telecommunications industry into the 21st century by deploying advanced packet-based communications networks, and is the first competitive carrier to offer integrated IP services," said Jack Cicon, President and CEO, Integral Access. "Through this strategic partnership, Integral Access and Time Warner Telecom will enable a new class of communications services for businesses across the country and usher in the era of integrated communications."

"The availability of new carrier class solutions that provide business class voice services using IP technology is poised to dramatically accelerate the transition of public networks from circuit switching to packet switching," said Mike Rouleau, senior vice president Marketing and Business Development, Time Warner Telecom. "The PurePacket platform enables us to support all our current voice and data services on one access network, while its packet-based architecture reclaims unutilized network resources that can generate new revenue."
