Integral Access Introduces PurePacketCompact for
Multi-Tenant Market at SUPERCOMM 2001

Single IP/MPLS Access Network System Enables Carriers to Cost Efficiently Deliver Integrated Voice and Broadband Services to Buildings

Atlanta - June 4, 2001 - Integral Access®, Inc., the intelligent MPLS access company, today announced at SUPERCOMM 2001 the PurePacketCompact service aggregator for use in Multi Tenant Units (MTU) including office buildings, hotels, apartment complexes, and campuses. This new addition to the PurePacket family of integrated access products is the first system for MTUs that enables Local Exchange Carriers (LECs) and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to deliver all voice, video, and data access services from a single network platform. Integral Access will demonstrate the PurePacketCompact at SUPERCOMM booth 413.

According to a recent report by research firm Cahners In-Stat Group, MTU broadband service and equipment sales will jump from $3.4 billion in 2000, to $8.5 billion in 2005. The IP/MPLS-based PurePacketCompact is a high density, wall/rack-mountable system that enables service providers to establish Mini Points of Presence (Mini-POPs) inside a building. Using a single PurePacketCompact, and customer-located PurePacketOUTburst® Integrated Access Devices (IADs), carriers can provide a comprehensive range of integrated services including:

  • Analog and digital PBX
  • Converged voice and data
  • Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS)
  • LAN extension
  • Tiered Data Services
  • ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network)
  • SDSL, G.shdsl, ADSL
  • Centrex - Basic and ISDN BRI

"While multi-tenant units represent a significant opportunity to offer integrated services to a high concentration of customers at a single location, they also force carriers to adapt and optimize their delivery infrastructure in order to maximize revenues," said Guy Chenard, vice president, marketing and business development, Integral Access. "The PurePacketCompact was designed specifically to address the unique operational requirements of multi-tenant units -- restricted floor space, flexible capacity, and high port density -- without sacrificing any service delivery capabilities."

Complete Service Portfolio

The PurePacketCompact supports the same comprehensive range of voice, video, and data services as the PurePacketNode™ in a smaller, high-density form factor that can be wall or rack mounted in space-constrained MTU environments. A single PurePacketCompact system allows network operators to service buildings and campuses housing up to 60 business tenants. It supports up to 96 POTS lines, and 72 xDSL lines in a single chassis. Service providers can link the PurePacketCompact back to their POP or Central Office via multiple high speed Wide Area Network (WAN) interfaces including OC3, Fast Ethernet, DS3, 4 x DS1, and E1. Gigabit Ethernet and OC12 interfaces will be available in future releases of the product. Like the PurePacketNode, PurePacketCompact supports both SoftSwitch VoIP infrastructures and legacy Class 5 switches.

Configurable OUTburst IADs

To enable service providers to lower the cost of serving the diverse needs of small and medium businesses, small office/home office, and residential customers, the PurePacketCompact can be deployed with any combination of the configurable OUTburst-SB, and OUTburst-Vx/Dx integrated access devices. These modular and compact systems are available in several application-specific configurations, and incorporate full channel bank functionality with extensive data and IP traffic transmission capabilities.

Centralized Element and Service Management

To enable network operators to remotely configure, monitor, and manage PurePacketCompact nodes and OUTburst IADs, as well as provision services, Integral Access provides the PurePacketOMS (Operations Management System). By leveraging the intelligence embedded in the PurePacket platform, the PurePacketOMS provides carriers a 'single-system image' of their access network. Using a standard Web browser interface, PurePacketOMS allows network administrators to remotely configure equipment and provision services without a truck roll, create and monitor SLAs, view network performance, and receive e-mail and pager alerts in the event of network outages or critical events.

About PurePacket

The PurePacket integrated access system enables carriers to deliver all services over a single network using virtually any transport media including copper pairs, xDSL, leased lines, and Fiber links. It is the first and only 100 percent packet-based solution that uses an MPLS-based fabric to place network intelligence at the customer premise, and make connectionless networks behave like their connection-oriented predecessors. PurePacket enables service providers to guarantee Quality of Service (QoS) for latency sensitive voice calls and video transmissions, dynamically allocate bandwidth between voice, video and data applications, and offer and bill for multiple classes of service. PurePacket is composed of PurePacketOUTburst customer premise IADs, PurePacketNode carrier network Multi Service Devices for central offices, co-locations, points of presence, PurePacketCompact for multi-dwelling/multi-tenant units (MDU/MTU), and the PurePacketOMS for network/element control and services management.

Pricing and Availability

The PurePacketCompact will be available this summer. The entry-level configuration starts at $8,000.
