Integral Access Completes Interoperability with Taqua Systems and Joins
the Taqua Open Partner Program (TOPP)
Combination of Next-Generation Class 5 Switch and Multi-Services Access
Platform Extends Integrated Services to Network Edge and Customer Premises
HYANNIS, Mass., September 4, 2001- - Taqua
Systems, Inc., a leading provider of next-generation Class 5 alternative
switching platforms for voice and data convergence, and Integral Access,
the intelligent MPLS access company, today announced that the two companies
have successfully completed product interoperability, including full GR-303
compatibility, between the two switching platforms: Taqua Systems' award-winning
Open Compact Exchange® (OCX®) and Integral Access' PurePacketNode
multi-service access platform. In addition, it was also announced that
Integral Access has joined the Taqua Open Partner Program (TOPP).
The joint Taqua/Integral Access solution will
allow telecommunications service providers to extend cost-effective, enhanced
Class 5 local voice services and data communications to the customer premises.
As the platforms are open architected, service providers will also be
able to maintain flexible deployment options via a single end-to-end solution
over twisted pair, DSL, T1/E1, or fiber optic link.
"Taqua is committed to partnering with best-in-class companies,
such as Integral Access, that provide immediate, cost-effective end-to-end
solutions for our customers," said Douglas Klaiber, Taqua's Senior
Director, Business Development. "There is great market demand and
need for the joint Taqua/Integral Access solution, and we are presently
pursuing several joint sales opportunities. We expect the OCX/PurePacketNode
combination to be very successful in the global telecommunications service
provider market."
In addition to interoperability testing, Taqua
Systems and Integral Access will cooperate on penetrating the important
independent operating company (IOC), competitive local exchange carrier
(CLEC), and other global telecommunications service provider markets through
a series joint marketing activities.
"Through our close partnership with leading providers of class 5
alternative switches, like Taqua Systems, we are able to provide network
operators with a complete IP-based access network solution that integrates
seamlessly with their voice switching infrastructure," said Guy Chenard,
Vice President, marketing and Business Development, Integral Access. "The
combination of the PurePacket system with Taqua's OCX is gaining traction
among carriers for its operational efficiencies and ability to support
all services on a single network."
About the Taqua Open Compact Exchange (OCX)
Taqua's OCX is a Class 5 alternative switching
system with integrated SoftSwitch functionality that provides a clear
migration path to next-generation packet-based networks. The OCX was purpose-built
to create an entirely new model for delivering local telecommunications
services - one which dramatically reduces initial and overall cost of
ownership, while realizing the promise of voice/data network convergence.
Based on a groundbreaking software and hardware architecture, the OCX
transforms legacy proprietary, centralized switching environments into
a next-generation distributed, intelligent and highly scalable network
supporting more than 100,000 subscribers. The OCX incorporates a core
set of CLASS and Custom Calling features and empowers third party service
developers via its SIP, AIN and open API interfaces. By providing a scalable
cost-effective alternative to legacy Class 5 switches, the OCX removes
cost-of entry barriers and increases service flexibility for telecommunications
carriers, including Independent Operating Companies (IOCs) and Competitive
Local Exchange Carriers (CLECs).
PurePacket Overview
The PurePacket integrated access system enables carriers to deliver all
services over a single network using virtually any transport media including
copper pairs, xDSL, leased lines, and fiber links. It is the first and
only 100 percent packet-based solution that uses an MPLS-based fabric
to guarantee service level agreements. PurePacket is composed of PurePacketOUTburst®
customer premise Integrated Access Devices (IADs); PurePacketNode
carrier network aggregation devices for central offices, co-locations,
and points of presence; PurePacketCompact for multi-dwelling/multi-tenant
units (MDU/MTU); and the PurePacketOMS for network/element control
and services management.
