Integral Access to Present Keynote Address on Voice over MPLS Standard at MPLS Challenge Conference

Rao Cherukuri, Senior Director Standards and Technology, to Discuss New Standard for Delivering IP-Based Voice Services

CHELMSFORD, Mass. - Sep. 10, 2001 - Integral Access®, Inc. -- the intelligent MPLS access company -- today announced that Rao Cherukuri, senior director, standards and technology, will present a keynote address on the new Voice over MPLS (Multi Protocol Label Switching) standard at the Marcus Evans MPLS Challenge Conference in Boston on September 25. Cherukuri, who is also Chair of the Application and Deployment Working Group of the MPLS Forum, will provide an overview of the standard, and an update on the recent general release of the Implementation Agreement for Voice over MPLS (VoMPLS).

The MPLS Forum defines VoMPLS as voice traffic carried directly over MPLS without IP encapsulation of the voice packet. Integral Access chaired the Application and Deployment Working Group of the MPLS Forum, and edited the Voice over MPLS (VoMPLS) specification. VoMPLS enables service providers to very efficiently transport voice services across IP/MPLS networks, manage call quality, and optimize bandwidth utilization in resource constrained access networks. This new standard is expected to spur vendor innovation and carrier deployment of MPLS-based communications equipment. The Integral Access PurePacket™ system uses MPLS to provide packet-based integrated access services.
