The Integral Access Operations Management System

The New Public Network is being built now. Integral Access extends the reach of this new network to the customer premise with a Pure-IP, broadband access solution that supports converged voice, video, and data services. Using Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) and advanced traffic management, our Carrier Class solution delivers end-to-end QoS, while enabling service providers to easily and economically deliver, manage and bill for next generation IP-converged services and applications. Supporting packet, SoftSwitch and circuit switch technologies, Integral Access hardware and software allow our customers to leverage existing infrastructure as hey migrate to the New, IP-converged, Public Network.

PurePacket OMS is an advanced, open and scalable operations management system that intelligently automates the converged IP-service environment. Intuitive point-and-click Wizards enable the rapid creation of richly differentiated IP--service portfolios, end-to-end flow-through provisioning and automated service element activation. Service Level Agreement (SLA) templates define and enforce Class and Quality of Service (CoS/QoS) and accounting policies within the network, while element configuration templates ensure the integrity and consistency of service deployments. Implementing CORBA as the integration layer and XML as an alternative interface method PurePacket OMS ensures seamless interoperation with new or existing Operations and Business Support ystems (OS /BSS). Leveraging sophisticated software modeling services, PurePacket OMS represents a new breed of operations management effortlessly shifting the paradigm from the network to the service layer.

Service Automation Through Intelligent Systems

Model-Based

PurePacketOMS™ employs a powerful modeling paradigm to simplify the complexities of the managed environment. Implementing Object-Oriented Design (OOD) methodologies, OMS represents all elements in the network and service environment both physical and logical as software models. OOD modeling offers significant advantages in the form of reusable code and a more readily adaptable application environment. Taking this one step further by modeling the complex relationships and inter-dependencies between these elements the OMS creates a living, breathing software representation of the real-world managed environment. All services provided by OMS leverage this power:

  • software downloads are intelligently propagated to their targets from any point in the managed hierarchy;
  • complex alarm and event chains can be quickly correlated to the root cause;
  • true end-to-end flow-through provisioning can be achieved;
  • network and physical layer faults can be easily abstracted to the service layer;
  • impacted customers and services quickly identified.

Figure 1. Intelligent modeling enables management at the level of the service.

Policy-Enabled ... Template and Wizard Driven

Templates are utilized to represent all modeled elements within the OMS and when coupled with intuitive Wizards, offer a quick, efficient and consistent means of managing the service environment. Element configuration templates:

  • ensure accurate, error-free service deployments as well as advanced pre-planning of network build-outs;
  • enable service providers to easily define and map product service requirements to Service Level Agreement (SLA), Traffic Contract and Triple A (Authorization, Authentication and Accounting) policies;
  • facilitate the PurePacketOMS™ and platform to operate synergistically dynamically and intelligently controlling network behavior at the level of the service. As a result, a flexible, richly-differentiated service environment with full QoS is delivered.

Service Creation

Bandwidth and capacity are no longer viable as a sole source of differentiation. Today s competitive carriers are seeking to create new network value through flexible and differentiated portfolios of converged services. PurePacketOMS™ uniquely positions our customers to meet the demands of this new world. Intuitive SLA Wizards, advanced pre-planning and service template facilities fully empower innovative, IP-enabled business strategies.

Advanced Pre-Planning

PurePacketOMS™ provides advanced pre-planning facilities that leverage modeling and template services to rapidly create, configure and provision new networks and services. The entire service environment can be fully prepared and modeled in software. These services ensure availability of capacity and resources, and enable automated, error-free network build-out and service turn-up, and rapid time-to-market.

Richly Differentiated Service Portfolios

Wizard-based SLA facilities enable the operator to quickly build a broad and differentiated product portfolio of converged IP services. Creating a new service product is as simple as selecting the SLA, traffic contract and accounting parameter variables and saving it as a template. Whether it be through carrier-class real-time voice, or finely-tuned tiered data services, PurePacketOMS™ is capable of meeting the mass customization needs for the market of one .

Policy-Enforcing Service Level Agreements (SLAs)

Policy-enforcing SLA templates ensure service QoS and remove the complexities associated with traffic management and engineering in converged, IP-based service environments. Quantifiable and measurable SLAs serve to build better customer dialog, and in turn, greater customer loyalty.

Service Delivery

Success for today s competitive carrier hinges upon its ability to rapidly deliver and activate new services. PurePacketOMS™ alleviates strained resources by automating the service delivery process.

Line Commissioning and Testing

Remote DS-1 commissioning and testing Wizard ensures the serviceability of the access line without the expense of a truck-roll.

Copy and Paste Configurations

Copy and paste configuration templates and bulk download facilities eliminate the potential for human error and significantly reduce time and costs.

Flow-Thru Provisioning Wizard

An Intuitive Wizard leverages OMS modeling intelligence to provision end-to-end network connections and services based upon flexible, policy-based route selection constraints.

Automated Service Registration and Activation

Capitalizing on advanced pre-planning facilities, newly deployed service elements will automatically register with, and activate through the network reducing costly truck-rolls and speeding market build-out.

Figure 2. Wizard-driven, flow-thru provisioning delivers rapid service activation.

Customer Self-Care

PurePacketOMS™ increases customer touch and reduces costs and burdens by extending self-care provisioning, billing and service health views easily and securely to the end-user.

Service Assurance

Understanding that revenue generation and customer retention depend upon service reliability and availability, Integral Access has architected a converged communications solution that is unmatched in the level of redundancy and protection it delivers. PurePacketOMS™ extends the power of modeling, policy-based SLAs and full protection management to ensure the availability and service quality for critical IP-based voice and data services.

Service Level Management

Intelligent OMS modeling facilities deliver clear visibility into, and management control over, the state and health of the customer s critical services by abstracting and presenting them at the level of service.

Capacity Planning

Pre-planning, modeling, configuration and provisioning facilities provide complete real-time visibility into planned and active network capacity and resource allocations. Critical infrastructure is then available to meet market and service expansions.

Distributed Threshold Framework

The intelligent threshold framework of OMS delivers distributed alarm and event suppression and correlation. Operations, Administration and Maintenance (OAM) costs and burdens are minimized and potential service-affecting incidents are avoided. This flexible framework supports run-time modifications to its threshold and rules-base quickly adapting to changing network and service requirements.

Figure 3. Real-time performance monitoring and advanced, alarm and event threshold framework ensure service quality and availability.

Alarm and Event Visibility and Control

OMS provides the user with visibility and control over alarms and events generated at any level of the network hierarchy (network, domain, node, chassis, slots, modules, interface, IAD, etc.) and provides for a rapid visual indication of alarm roll-up status.

Carrier Class Protection Management

PurePacket OMS ensures a highly resilient, fault-tolerant environment with automatic restoration of failed connections and automated fail-over redundancy for protected services. OMS enables the operator to provision multiple LSPs or cascading, fail-over redundancy and provides automated re-provisioning of failed connections.

Hitless Upgrades

Leveraging OMS template and modeling facilities, software, services and configurations can be deployed network-wide for safe, non-service affecting (run-time) upgrades.

Service Revenue Assurance

Managing from a service level abstraction OMS delivers full data Connection Detail Record (CDR) accounting on end-to-end connection basis. Flat minutes are turned into billable fat minutes.
