Introduction

Integral Access offers service providers a next generation, multi-service access solution to deliver a broad portfolio of voice, data, and video services. The five application areas that address these services are:

• Legacy Voice - providing voice services using a traditional Class 5 circuit switch
• Next Generation Voice - providing voice services, using a next generation SoftSwitch model
• Internet Access and Managed IP Services - providing data services enabling customers access to the Internet or participation in Managed IP services.
• Virtual Private Networks - delivering Layer 2 and Layer 3-based Virtual Private Networks (VPNs)
• Bundled Services - delivering integrated voice, data, and video services

In the Legacy Voice application, PurePacket™ provides the Digital Loop Carrier (DLC) functionality that allows service providers to support voice services using a GR-303 or V5.2 interface.

In the Next Generation Voice application, PurePacket™ provides an Access Gateway function under the control of a SoftSwitch Call Agent using MGCP as the call control protocol.

To support the Internet Access and Managed IP Services application, PurePacket™ provides transport for data traffic and routing for Managed IP Services. The Managed IP Services supported are:

• Virtual Routing for Internet Access
• 802.1Q Virtual LANs (VLANs) support for Customer Premise traffic classification
• 802.1Q VLAN support for delivery of differentiated data services
• Virtual Private Networks

In the Virtual Private Network application, PurePacket™ delivers Layer 2 and Layer 3-based VPNs through the support of Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS), Virtual IP Routing and 802.1Q VLAN.

For the Bundled Services application, because PurePacket™ is inherently multi-service, integrated voice, data, and video services can be delivered cost effectively using a common solution, under a single management system.

The PurePacket™ solution, can provide value to a service provider via three different deployment scenarios:

• Access Network Convergence - converging existing TDM and ATM access into a next generation, multi-service access solution;

• Next Generation Network - IP/MPLS access for an all-packet, next generation network solution for voice and data services

In the Access Network Convergence scenario, PurePacket™ enables a service provider to preserve legacy investment yet still move beyond TDM and ATM access technologies to an IP/MPLS access infrastructure. By taking advantage of the multi-service capabilities of the PurePacketNode™, a service provider can maximize service offerings while utilizing a common access infrastructure.

In the Legacy Voice and Data Network Migration scenario, PurePacket™ enables a service provider to leverage existing investment, yet still migrate to a next generation IP/MPLS access solution in place of multiple legacy access networks.

In the Next Generation Network scenario, PurePacket™ provides the next generation IP/MPLS access component of a complete all-packet next generation network offering for voice, data, and video services.
