Integral Access offers service providers a next generation, multi-service access solution capable of delivering both layer 2 and layer 3 Virtual Private Networks (VPN) solutions. PurePacket™ meets critical VPN service requirements, including high-speed access, enhanced network security, quality of service, IP address management, and customer management.

The layer 2 and layer 3 VPN service types that are supported are:

  • Transparent LAN service - transporting VLAN switched traffic between different locations of the same customer
  • Virtual Lease Line service - providing connection-oriented point-to-point links between customer sites, where each Virtual Leased Line is perceived as a dedicated private link.
  • Virtual Private LAN Service - emulating a LAN network using Layer 2 tunnels
  • Virtual Private Routed Network - emulating a multi-site wide area routed network using Layer 3 tunnels

A key element of providing VPN services is a service provider's ability to configure, manage, and guarantee service performance. The PurePacketOMS™ application - VPN Manager, will enable these capabilities. The most important aspect of VPN Manager is its ability to present the managed environment from a logical topology rather than a physical topology viewpoint. VPN manager will provide:

  • Logical VPN topology abstraction and presentation
  • Administration using GUI tools
  • Service selection, creation, and provisioning
  • Data portioning for "customer" initiated management and reporting
  • Service performance, state and health views and reporting
  • Scheduled service activation and deactivation

Customer access to data services are through a 10/100 Base-Tx Ethernet interface on a PurePacketOutburst® Integrated Access Device (IAD) or via ADSL modem termination on the PurePacketNode®. Where applicable in multi-tenant or campus environments, the PurePacketNode or PurePacketCompact™ also provide a 10/100 Base-Tx (or 10/100 Base-Fx) Ethernet interface for subscriber access.

PurePacketNode, deployed in a service provider's Co-location site or Central Office provides connectivity with the service provider's "managed" backbone network for the transport of IP traffic. A variety of backbone network interfaces (e.g. Ethernet, Clear channel TDM, Packet over SONET, ATM, or MPLS) are available as appropriate for a service provider's transport network. Product specifications can be found on the PurePacketNode datasheet.
